Facedown in the Sand
My Name Is Aylan Kurdi
I cannot breathe water
There is no oxygen in the bubbles
There is no sunlight in sand
I am only three years old
These many 1, 2, 3
I cannot speak sign language
Only the dialect of the dead
I wanted to swim to Canada
Or even walk on water to get there
There is no escape
There is no freedom
I am not asleep
I journey on
Do not mourn a life
I never lived
I have been
Trapped in a corporal body
I long for my spiritual state
And create a new type of sovereignty
My joy will carry over
