The Breakup
Blake gently brushed her hand across Devins cheek. Her muscles stiffen causing her to flinch awkwardly. This isn't the end is it? It can't be! “Why would you want to throw all of this away?” Blake's voice filled with an arguable arrogance that made Devin stumble to her feet. Blankets crumbled on the ground from the previous night, only a single sheet lay upon the bed. The spine chilling echoes of sirens rush past the building. She holds her breath for just a moment before letting it go abruptly. “I don't.” Devin speaks softly. “We can figure this out… please…” Tears well in Blakes eyes, her partner looks away. “Dev… please”
“STOP IT!” Devin shouts, loud enough to awaken the whole apartment building. She paces forward, unsure if the rage inside her is truly anger or just pure sorrow. Blake sits up, slowly inching her way toward Devin whose face is flushing the color red. “I love you…” Devin mutters facing Blake. Blakes eyes drift towards the wine stained carpet.
“But I can't keep doing this to myself… to you.” Devin slips a hoodie over her head full of long messy hair. She slips the small backpack onto her shoulder. “I’m gonna go now.” Devin says softly, giving Blake one last glance before they part. Blake doesnt look up from the carpet as Devin opens the door with a loud creak. Blake doesn't hear the door slam, she can feel devins presence still lingering .”Devin…” Blake's voice dances inside Devins ears. She perks her gaze towards the door. “You shine bright and don't let anyone stop you.” Devin smiles softly. A sad, longingful smile which Blake mocks as the door gently closes behind her.
