My Friends
There are some friends for me in dog`s world like Paco, some sort of small breed, looking more like rat then me. He comes and goes, sometimes he stays with us as a guest for a few days. He likes to make a mess. Blankets, sheets, pillows left unguarded finish quickly among his teeth. Once I joined him in this crusade against bedding. Suddenly, I heard gate being open. I scooted away to mine dog-box. Nevertheless, both of us got scolding. Although he gets small portions of food, I don`t mind eating them. Every little free snack is good for me, that`s mine motto.
Other great friend is Buck, Rhodesian ridgeback. Its breed is from Africa and is pretty rare here. His lord got it when he was just tiny puppy from Belgrade Zoo ward Vuk Wolf Bojović. This man is remembered for great love for animals; in fact if there is Nobel Prize award for animals-lovers he would be for sure one of the laureates after Brigitte Bardot, of course, because he is also a gentleman. Interesting thing about Zoo is that it houses alligator Muya for over 70years who “witnessed” the rise and fall of Berlin walls and many other events of modern times. For instance, he is older than EU. He is alive and kicking, not kicking because he spends most of the time in the water and he lacks part of the foot, due to operation.
When we meet, somewhere in the forest, because Buck doesn’t enjoy river bath and refreshment as I do, there is lot of chase, scudding and little bit of friendly wrestling. He has much smoother coat and huge ridge on the back. That is precautionary measure to protect its spine from harm. In his old habitat huge cats live and the job of any ridgeback is to defend the stock from attacks of female lionesses. Male lions are larger but they only go hunting on really large prey like water buffalo or small elephant.
My friend has slim legs and is very agile. He likes my master and one time he surprises him jumping on his shoulder and Jovan is more than average height for a human, around 191 cm.
His diet is strange or rather peculiar for a big dog. Almost entirely vegetable mix like his master, except some frozen sea fish like picarel.
“I put him wild carrot, beetroot and wild nettle in blender together with fish. He loves it. Look at him! He grazes wild nettle. I didn’t give him any today so he finds in on his own”, Ivan, Buck`s owner cheerfully explains. I often take several trunks of grass; it is good for a stomach. However I have no intention eating those wild things. Thank you very much! I stick to my owner Rose cuisine and whatever I find along- part of a sandwich, some unguarded pizza, dead fish (it could be found when the Danube is retrieving suddenly, but you have to obtain keen sense of smell) or dead and withered frog or snake during heat wave.
