Challenge
the poet's choice or the lover's choice?
In the film, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, it was said that in the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, Orpheus had chosen the poet's choice, that is to turn around and causing Eurydice to be held back to the Underworld, thus letting her go. Orpheus chose the memory of Eurydice instead of her, freezing her in time and preserving art, or their romance. Meanwhile, a true lover would never leave or give up, choosing to sacrifice not to see their loved one, in exchange for a life with them. Relate this to a love you've experienced, which did you choose? would you have chosen the other, if given the opportunity or not? why choose that one over the other?
your choice, not mine
You chose to lose me
and keep the good memories instead,
worried your perception of me, of us, would change if you stayed.
But me,
I never would have left or given up.
I would have given anything for a life with you.
