blowing out your own candle

the flame fading in cadence

with the arctic words

slipping

            off

                  your

                          tongue.

When was the last time

you struck a match

for anyone else?

The only warmth

you ever shared

was kindled in your belly.

I would hand you my candle

but you’d blow that out too.
