S.O.S
I stand by the seawall,
searching the water,
for what the land can’t give me:
a sense of peace.
But the waves are crashing against the wall,
falling onto the rocks below,
and the wind is howling in my ears.
The far side across the sea turns hazy,
blurring the trees and houses into disarray,
the storm rages closer and closer,
but I’m transfixed to this spot,
I can’t move.
People rush past me,
hoping to miss the downpour
that’s making it’s way over the water.
I think about the ones
I used to laugh with
and spill my secrets to,
the ones I could talk to for hours
without getting bored.
Where are they now?
We’ve drifted apart,
through time and distance,
our ship sank to the bottom of the sea,
maybe this is how it’s meant to be.
Rain falls alongside my tears,
the cold drenching my clothes,
there’s no one to see
the pain flooding from my eyes.
I’m shipwrecked.
