Little Lady, Many a Rumor
Every night for years I sat on my roof and watched an old lady water her little garden. When I had nearly finished college, she passed away.
She seemed an uninteresting old lady, but the rumors about her were anything but. Some said her husband suddenly died, that she turned to prostitution for money but had an epiphany and became nun before leaving to live simply.
That was only one of the rumors. Another said that in her prime, she had been quite the beauty and knew it too. She had lived in Vegas as a prostitute, fell in love, and was married but was widowed only years later; she became a nun.
Yet another rumor is that after her husband died, she became a nun and secretly a prostitute before getting caught and not allowed to be a nun. I don’t believe that rumor much.
They must’ve had some truth because they were all about the same three things: widow, prostitute, and nun. It didn’t matter too much to me though. I only wish I would have gone over and talked to her. Instead, I bought her house after she died, so I could water her little garden.
