“Black Lives Matter”
We have given them
pathways into our
pathetic existence
we’d become the
pandemic welfare
and healthcare’s
crisis
an experience
a callous experiment
long after “Tuskegee”
Hatred like Wildfires
in California
overdoses of heroin
dirty needles and
corruption
yesterday, today, and
tomorrow?
correct us if
we’re wrong,
but judgment day
seems like it’s
here to stay,
“if we may ask,
What have we done
so wrong
“our voices”
go unheard?”
We’ve given them
a way into our demise
through rhythm and
rhymes
the messages can’t
be all lies
Let Privilege tell it
it’s justified by
loopholes and law
an imbalance of
divinity and royalty
the textbooks sell it
mirrors for tell it
horrors reflect it
like a sour fortune
bitter the chastening rod
bleach stains hide it
the truth of
crimson blood
a scorching war
memories on
the leaves of
southern leaves
Heaven is weary
and He’ll cries rises
echoing the toxic
ashes of history
Sulfur mixed with
the violent violation
tear gas and political
compartmentalization
defect infections within
a nation
anthropology’s definition
and categories
Niggers, Coloreds, Negros,
Nigggahs,
archeological factors
we were once a
Royal Priesthood
Sublime even
Their way in
wasn’t forced, but
welcomed by
beats and lyrics
horrible storms
and stories
via airwaves
robbed of humanity
because we’ve been
touched by the sun
direct decent defendants
of Son of Man
God evenly placed
in our D.N.A.
Yet we allow
dissension and division
by class and isms
we made Harlem and
Atlanta a Mecca
remnants of
“The Black Renaissance
stories of Struggles’ Pain
Painting, Rapping, Dancing,
Drumming, photographing,
Singing, Preaching, Teaching,
Writing, Art out Loud
stories of Negritude
being invisible like
the air
“We Can’t Breathe”
We Can’t Breathe”
We Can’t Breathe”
Can’t explain the
hate away
We gave them real eyes
while the prize is Freedom
“Oh Freedom Coming
Oh Freedom Coming
Oh Freedom Coming”
Martyrs we became
sacrificed brutally
Crucified like
“Christ”
for Dignity
and Human Rights
Human Rights
God Given Rights
We gave them a way in
B.L.M.
“They call it
Black Lives Matter”
Black isn’t absent from Light
Aren’t Lives are Sacred?
Matter is physical
not invisible
Calling to Firm Form
the forecast and foresight
of what’s right
Injustice by light
and by night
is abhorrent in
God’s line of
Sight
We all must face
one another
ask for might
to do what’s right
Is that Alright????
