The Truth About Unrequited Love
At some point in our lives, we may have met someone we thought was perfect for us. We may have collided worlds with them unexpectedly, with a simple smile and a twinkle in their eyes, and a shake of the hand, or we may have already knew them according to what we have planned, to the point that, that special occurrence in our lives, let us admit, had made us all believe in fairytales.
Yes, sparks flew everywhere, and it seemed like all around us went in slow motion the day we encountered that special person. We all remember the day when our hearts have whispered something unexplainable yet beautiful to us, that only ourselves could ever understand. Even words nor emotions could not express what we felt that day. But, all we ever knew was, that feeling was indeed real, amazing, and brand new, and we all had thought, that love was knocking at the door of our hearts.
We may have seen our future with them, with all our plans laid out and all we ever did was to wait for them to happen in the right time, or we have even thanked the Heavens to have met them. But, what if the person we chose to be with, with all the waiting and expectations, did not choose us? That was the end of ourselves, we thought. Our hearts felt the piercing ache when we knew that the person who meant the world to us slowly disappeared, maybe because they were happy with somebody else, or they were looking for someone who would perfectly fit their missing pieces. Let us be real this time, but we sometimes have denied these truths to ourselves. Let us admit, too, that these truths, eventually, left our hearts shattered into pieces.
An unreciprocated love, or what we call unrequited love, breaks the hearts of most of us. A lot of people went through this stuff, and it is alright to feel that way. We could not blame ourselves for loving them with all of our hearts, because as humans, we desire to love and to be loved in return. It was neither our fault to see them as someone lovable, because when the heart falls, it just falls. The heart knows its own language, which is love, and even us could never comprehend it.
A lot of us might ask, why did that happen? Some of us might question their worth as a person, of what was not enough, but no, we did not see this coming. Let this be a reminder for all of us, that the person who broke our hearts, whom we thought as the perfect one, did not have an important role in the story that God has already written for us. They were not meant to be in the bigger picture that God already planned. They were not made for us, it was just that simple. They might play as extras to intervene in our stories, but let us always bear in mind that the Author, who is God, already knew who the perfect pair is.
If we ever have experienced the pain of unrequited love, let us cheer up! Wipe away the tears that welled up our eyes. In every delay, there is a purpose. It is okay to feel the pain we have felt. Nothing will ever compare the joy we will be having in the temporary pain those revelations had caused. Maybe, we do not know, they are actually people we thought we wanted. Maybe, we have just been blind for a long time. Unrequited love protects us from major heartbreaks wrong people will cause, and God, who knows everything in between, took away that person from us just to save us.
These truths about unrequited love are just proof that, in every unreciprocated love, someone better is about to come. Not better, but rather, the best. Someone is out there, also waiting for true love to come. Someone who’s already tired and fed up in chasing the wrong people and trying to fit in. Someone out there’s also exhausted with games that people play in love. We might have seen them just around the corner, or maybe a total stranger is about to come our way to know us, but these will be revealed in the right time. That someone is more than we ever asked for, and we will thank God for having such a blessing, a joy, and a prize, all in one— a person who is a gift ready to be received. Just wait and see, for real love will come our way, someday soon.
