Challenge
Which book deserves the crown for being the king of horror, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein or Bram Stoker’s Dracula?
Give your opinions. Winner goes to the most convincing argument. If you think there's a better horror novel worthy of the title please do share!
True Monsters
Easy - Shelly's Frankenstein, because in her book the real monster isn't the murderous creature cobbled together from bodies but the human who brought him to life.
Case in point: the poor creature never even gets a name. You have to invoke his creator - the title of the book itself - in order to identify him. It reminds us that humanity builds its own nightmares, it doesn't need to be preyed upon by boogiemen or the dark.
