Interrogation Draft
She associated herself with all the wrong people. Poor girl, worth so much more than she had. You can’t blame her really, with parents like hers. Never taught her right from wrong, in fact, they never taught her much at all. Mandy was so young, she had no instincts. Even in a town like San Ramon, she didn’t have a prayer to save her.
Can you elaborate entailing to the parents?
Classic case of neglect. Father had many mistresses, stayed out late, when he was home he was hardly sober. Mother stayed with her boyfriend two towns over. I don’t know much about her now, but I knew her mother from highschool. She was a raging bitch, I’ll tell you. Slept with as many boyfriends as she could, and trust me, they were never hers. Anyone could’ve guessed the family would end fucked up. Sometimes its hard to say who’s the victim in this whole ordeal.
This ordeal being Mandy’s disappearance?
Well sure, when you put it like that it appears obvious. However, you have me thinking, Mister…
Cleveland
Yes Mister Cleveland, I’m thinking back now, and I’m seeing three rows of meticulously planted yellow pansies torn from their newly sprouted roots in my own front yard, and I’m seeing Mandy’s shiny new bike 10 yards away, building speed. And I’m remembering Diane Becker whispering to me during Sunday church about her baby Judah who was found high off his mind in Terrace Park, who in the hospital begged to see Mandy with tubes stuck in him. And I can’t help but fail to ignore all the soccer carpool gossip I heard coming from the back seat, almost always centered around Mandy and the latest reason she was suspended. Mister Cleveland, I’m sorry but I seem to have missed a key factor to my statement. Mandy wasn’t a good kid. She caused this town nothing but stress. She may have been young, and she may have been a product of poor parenting, but Mandy Quinn had it coming.
