This time I decided to just check out two of these:
Dukla Pass Victims Day
The Slovaks annually observe a very important memorial day for their nation Dukla Pass Victims Day on October 6. Observation of this day is connected with the events during World War II, when the Soviet and Czechoslovakian troops managed to capture the Dukla Pass from Nazi Germany.
The Dukla Pass is a strategically significant mountain pass in the Outer Eastern Carpathians. The pass lays on the border between Poland and Slovakia and an ancient trade route Dukla-Svidnik passes through this territory. The pass was captured by Nazi Germany during World War II and the Soviet Army launched an attack on Dukla in September 1944.
During this time several major battles occurred on the territory of the pass. One of them was near the city of Dukla, that lasted for 10 days. The battle to capture this hill lasted from 10–20 September, and during that period the control of the hill changed more than 20 times.
National Golden Week Holiday
I’ve put this one off long enough, but, the People’s Republic of China, gave the name given to a semi-annual 7-day or 8-day national holiday, implemented in 2000.
Three or four (if Mid-Autumn Festival is near National Day) days of paid holiday are given, and the surrounding weekends are re-arranged so that workers in Chinese companies always have seven or eight continuous days of holiday. These national holidays were first started by the government for the PRC’s National Day in 1999 and are primarily intended to help expand the domestic tourism market and improve the national standard of living, as well as allowing people to make long-distance family visits. The Golden Weeks are consequently periods of greatly heightened travel activity.
Or better known as paid time off from work
