We watched Bob Hope’s USO show
Dad, December 22, 1969
I hope you’re doing well. We watched a USO show, and Bob Hope was there. You said you saw him in Korea. He is sure the funny sort.
I am sorry I delayed volunteering like I did and you were sore at me over not signing up right when I turned of age. But at least I enlisted before the draft started up. You are a true patriot and I aim to get in the field fighting those bastard gooks just as soon as they get our mission mapped out. I expect they probably will decorate me. Like you were in Korea! I never heard you talk about your active duty but talk is cheap anyhow.
You know I will do anything not to let my country down or let you down.
I wonder if Ricky will volunteer when he hits 18. We were competitive and so I’m sorry him and me fought so much. Cause I got held back in first grade, I guess being in the same grade with my kid brother made me resent him like hell. I hid my comics before I left cause I know he likes to read them all. Tell him they’re under Mom’s sewing cabinet in case something happens to me. I mean, if I forget to tell him about them.
Give my love to Mom and tell Mom not to worry cause I will make you and her so very proud of me, Dad.
Your son,
Daniel
