Colors and Emotions
A brown-haired male lazily looked out the window. His hair slowly turned yellow and a few of his classmates stared at him. Jett had been staring at the garden of flowers. “Jett?” Yellow quickly turned to purple as he quickly looked at his teacher. “You alright?” The purple slowly turned into yellow again as the boy nodded.
“Okay, try to pay attention, okay? This stuff is important for your test.” The teacher said, and smiled. Jett raised up and nodded, showing that he’d listen this time. The teacher nodded and continued reviewing the lesson.
Jett focused on his teacher’s lesson and made it through the end of class. Jett stayed behind after the other students left and his teacher walked over to his desk. Jett stared out the window as the teacher sat down in front of him. “Jett.” Jett’s hair turned white as he looked at his teacher. “Your parents called me. They want me to take you home again. Is that okay?” The older man smiled a little.
“As long as you get me icecream.” Jett’s hair turned yellow as he smiled at his teacher. “Of course, kid.” The man stood up and ruffled Jett’s hair before walking back to his desk to pack up. Jett grabbed his things and followed his teacher to the big desk at the front of the classroom and waited patiently. The teacher quickly finished grabbing his things and Jett’s hair turned green as they left the classroom.
“Did you have a good day, Jett?” The man asked as they walked down the hall. “Mhm.” Jett nodded. “Can you tell me three good things that happened today?” The man asked, smiling a little.
“I got up on time.” Jett started counting his fingers, “Then I ate cereal..” Jett tilted his head and the man knew what that meant.
Jett had been alone that morning. Again.
Jett’s hair slowly turned blue and they both stopped walking. “Key..” The man turned to Jett and crouched down some. “Jett.” Jett started to cry and Keegan started to pull out a tissue but Jett had hugged him, making him tense.
“Do they not like me, Key? What did I do?” Keegan hugged the boy back and rubbed his back. “I’m sure they do like you, Jett. You’ve done nothing wrong, they just work a lot, you know.” Keegan said.
“But they never spend time with me, even if they are home.“Jett cried, his hair turning another darker shade of blue. Keegan was becoming really uneasy, “I’m sorry, Jett..” Keegan picked Jett up. “I’ll talk to them if you want..but there’s not much I can do..” Keegan whispered, holding both of their things and walking out of the school.
Keegan had walked to his car and opened the back door to put their things in. Jett didn’t let go but he wasn’t sobbing anymore. Keegan closed the car door before opening the passenger seat. Jett didn’t want to let go as Keegan lowered him down. “Jett, please let go.” Jett whined, and Keegan sat him down but Jett didn’t let go of the sleeves of Keegan’s shirt.
“Do you want me to stay the night?” Jett froze and his hair turned white again. “Then let go. Please.” Keegan said, and Jett slowly let go. His tears stopped and Keegan helped him wipe his face before standing up straight and closing the door.
By the time Keegan had gotten in the car Jett had put on his seatbelt. Keegan turned on his car and put his seatbelt on. Keegan started to drive and Keegan’s hair was still white. Keegan hoped it’d turn yellow or maybe even green when they got ice cream.
Keegan had kept his eyes on the road but then felt his phone being pulled out of his pocket. Keegan glanced at Jett and saw the boy had the phone in his hands. Keegan continued to drive and he made it to the store.
“Do you want to come inside?” Jett shook his head, his eyes completely attatched to a game on Keegan’s phone. “Okay.” Keegan grabbed his hoodie from the back seat and gave it to Jett. Jett quickly put the oversized hoodie on so no one would see him. Keegan got out of the car and Jett got on the floor.
Keegan went in the store and easily found a pack of ice cream cups..but just as he was about to grab it, someone took it from him. Keegan made eye contact with a shorter woman, “I’m sorry. I need this.” Then she quickly left him. Keegan easily grabbed a box of popsicles and went to the cash register. The same woman was in front of him.
Keegan patiently waited and overheard that the woman didn’t have any change. Keegan pulled out a dollar and gave it up. “Oh, my! Thank you so much.” Keegan was honestly getting a bit irritated with the woman. “No problem.” Keegan put the box of popsicles down.
“How can I ever repay you?” The woman asked, “It was just a dollar.” Keegan whispered, and paid for the popsicles. “But that dollar paid for my food. You didn’t have to.” “It was the right thing to do. Have a good afternoon.” Keegan walked out of the store and to his car.
Once Keegan had gotten to his car he had noticed that the woman had followed him. “Are you sure I can’t repay you? There must be something I can do.” The woman said, when Keegan turned around.
“No, it’s alright. Have a good day.” Keegan said, and got in the car. He gave the bag to Jett on the floor but didn’t let Jett move since the woman was still standing near his car.
Keegan smiled and put on his seatbelt after starting the car. The woman backed up and Keegan started to drive, letting Jett quickly get up to sit down and put his seatbelt on. “What was that about, Key?- And what are these?” Jett said, his hair slowly turning red.
“There was a woman who took the last of your favorites..” Keegan said, calmly and Jett got more upset as he crossed his arms. “She didn’t have enough to pay for her things so I did.” “Why?” Jett asked, the tips of his hair turned white.
“It’d make the process go faster. She wouldn’t let it go though and followed me out.” Jett let out a tsk and rolled his eyes.
Keegan sighed, “But you’re not that angry at the popsicles, are you?” He asked, glancing at Jett. “No, I’m fine.” Jett said, and Keegan smiled as he stopped at a red light.
“Good. You can have one early.” Keegan patted Jett’s head and his hair slowly turned white. “Okay.” Jett said, pulling out the box of popsicles.
