A real ‘bad’ Trip / a REAL ‘bad trip’
I drove to a town many, many miles from where I lived because I'd gotten a letter about a great potential deal from a timeshare company. This was pre-GPS and cell phone by a longshot. The letter said people coming for a meeting would get money and a free camera for showing up. (I had no intention of buying a timeshare.)
I had looked at a map, but hadn't calculated how LONG it would take to actually drive there and back. The people there told me I would have had to come with my spouse. I wasn't married, so I couldn't have done this! It was a long time ago, and I feel 99% sure I tried to block this memory to keep from feeling so horrified at my bad judgement. But what I think happened is that I did not qualify for the cash offer that had been laid out.
The camera was so light and poorly constructed, I think it was actually made of thin plastic. I also think I just kind of threw it in my car. I drove home for seemingly interminable HOURS to get home. When I got back, I couldn't even find the camera. I wonder if somehow the folks had kept it. Or maybe I'd dropped it in their gravel lot accidentally.
This may not be the very worst trip I've taken, but it's likely a close tie, if not. Needless to say, it wasn't very satisfying.
