How to love God
Obedience is the key to how we can love God.
“He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.”
(John 14:21)
We know God loves us, and now we are born-again. How to identify Sin to avoid that minefield that could destroy us, knowing that all Sin leads to death.
Placing action on our faith, even though we have not seen Yeshua our Messiah and living life according to his instructions and waiting for his soon return. Yeshua said to Thomas in John 20:27-29:
“Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.”
We can continue with the confidence that it is by grace we have been saved and not of works. But, God has given us works to perform to show our love to Him through obedience.
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17
The desire to show our love and express it to a Holy and Awesome God is demonstrated through our obedience to His instructions and teaching. God loves us, this is a fact. We can love God too. Love is a Verb in the Hebrew language – Action is required to fully express love. Love is not an emotional feeling, but an action demonstrated through obedience to God's word.
The love relationship is like a husband and wife. Just a few examples: The husband expresses his love to his wife by providing for her needs, protecting her. The wife shows her love by helping her husband with his needs, such as preparing a meal, caring for children, and looking her best for her husband.
The Torah is a Marriage contract with his bride, which is the born-again-believers.
A problem arises in the relations ships with husband and wife when feelings get in the road of treating each other in love. But, God has kept his part of the contract, it is the bride that has fallen short and must repent. God has given us instructions to live life. These are found in the Torah and explained through the prophets and the writings, including the New Testament (The Apostolic writings).
Love is an action, treating one another like you would yourself. If you’re feelings get in the way of doing what is right, that is a sin. We covered this in a previous chapter.
“Therefore, to him that knoweth to do good and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”
(James 4:17)
The list above is by no means everything a husband or a wife does for one another, hope you get the idea. Love is an action of right living, righteousness. The instruction on how to love one another and God are written all through the Bible. The love God had for Adam and Eve was demonstrated by removing them from the garden before they could take of the tree of life and live forever in a sinful nature. God has plans for all of mankind, but not all of humanity is willing to follow along with the plan of Salvation.
We know our Salvation is a gift, when you receive a gift, and open it up and take ownership of that gift. Then you apply that gift to your life. But, to place it on the shelf and never open it up, well, you know about the gift but, you never took ownership. The gift of grace is like that. You must take ownership, and loving God is doing just that, taking ownership.
*Psalms 31:23-24 “O love the LORD, all you his saints (believers): for the LORD preserves the faithful, and plentifully rewards the proud doer. Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all you that hope in the LORD.”
*John 15:9-11 “As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue you in my love. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you and that your joy might be full.”
The commandment that we keep is found in the Torah. The instructions that are given in the Torah are not do and don’ts; they are instructions on how to live life to the fullest. God has given these teachings and instructions because he loves us. We can be disobedient children and try to do things our way. He loves us, and he will take us out to the spiritual woodshed and give us the correction we need. This too is because he loves us.
*Proverbs 3:11-12 “My son, don't despise Adonai's (God’s) discipline or resent his reproof; for Adonai corrects those he loves like a father who delights in his son.”
God showed his love in many tangible ways; first off, He gave Yeshua to demonstrate this love on the Cross. He guides us on our journey to our desired destination, which, in some future moment, we are reunited with Yeshua. Yeshua will be our King, The Groom. We will be with our Creator forever and ever.
God is making sure that we find our way. He desires that we show our love to him by following the instructions on how to best live life until he calls us home.
*John 14:21-24: Yeshua said, “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.”
Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifesting thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
Yeshua answered and said unto him, “If a man loves me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me…loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.”
God has given the instruction to live a righteous and full life that we can receive His love and forgiveness. We must intern devote our lives to Loving our Creator. This is very simple. He has given us His Spirit to Love him and others. Yeshua did not come to take away the Torah, and the Prophets:
