Visceral
It's slippery, it's sticky, it's like syrup, but it's not "surreptitious."
It gives me the same energy I get from "viper" but without jagged the aftertaste of "zipper."
It gives me "fist" and "feral" and "viceroy" without any of the flabby connotations.
It says "municipal" without the onions.
"Vision" and "oral" and "misery" without the horror, medical context.
It's not like "acrid" or "caustic" but like a bubble bath of boiling vinegar and grapes.
It's not quite "acute" or "medicinal" but it's closer to October, goblin shark, vellum.
Visceral just screams gore and guts and all the squishy insides without leaving "inside."
It's blatant violence contained in a little meat bag, and it feels as good as it sounds.
Say it: visceral.
It's a big cat, cougar word with a splash of Clive Barker and quiet, oiled up whisper (1)
And honestly, it's a damn good descriptor.
