A Little Life.
A story without a plot can be quite devastating but not all stories lead to something or anything paramount, just a heavy dose of fantastical reality. It is a story of friendship that builds from youth and climaxes as the main characters traverse between the different stages of their lives and find meaning and hope and love within eachother and for one another. The words and emotions we often struggle to reveal; the vulnerability of it all makes us blush with anguish as we yearn to be seen, to be heard, to be accepted as we are, without admonishment, without guilt, without shame, just love. To take us as we are without the intent to change or fix what appears to be broken because afterall if we could, wouldn’t we have done so already? The present world seen through the eyes of a past self, riddled with pain and guilt, a tenuous future that seems almost certainly nonexistent; the stories we weave for ourselves and the stories we tell others or don’t make us who we are yesterday, today and tomorrow. Demons that give chase and the dreams that torment, the blades of words and thoughts and how the body languishes--physically and mentally. Life is mired in atrocity and horrendous brutality and yet there is such beauty and tenderness in the kindness of friends and family--life can sometimes be worth living, until it is not and even then there is still survival. Who are we, when we seem to be defined by our limitations and the pasts we try to hide but can never quite escape. We live within the scope of our hopes and dreams and the frightening realization that one day they too will leave but until then we carry forward not because I am strong, but because you are here.
