the escape
¨What was the first thing you remember?¨ said a 14-year-old girl sitting by the brick fireplace drinking tea. She had dark brown hair with highlights, her eyes were green with just a bit of blue, she was tan with a bit of red on her arms. She was sitting with her body facing a man across from her. The man was in his 60’s with a beard about a centimeter thick sitting in a worn leather chair much like her. The man had a cup of tea as well. He was tan and tall but he seemed to need a cane as there was a wooden one right next to his chair.
“I remember waking up in a dark room. It had no windows and was made of some substance I couldn’t yet identify. I was a teenager, 15, but I knew nothing about the world. I remember this alchemist who was skinny with a strong body white hair, short, and he taught me about the world. Called me his creation, and I was. He made me, used the body of a boy I never knew. I was as intelligent as a newborn. I wasn’t the only one there though. There were many other experiments, 30 of them. I was the first. The alchemist taught me as best they could. I learned 3 different languages.
But he had a dark side. The experiments were to test what could kill us. We never truly found out as nothing seemed to. But this dark side seemed like it was a separate person, so I and the other experiments planned on escaping.
For a year we had been planning. This all had to be perfect. We would make sure he could not make more by taking the DNA. We had a scout to help plan out the exit and where we would go. We would run out to the nearest town and earn money to sail away. We would then disperse. It did not work out exactly how we planned.
Bajahar did not want us to escape or anybody getting in, so he put guards, the magical kind, all around the area. He also put traps. So when running three of our number gets captured. Evan, kat, and Andrew. Or as their nicknames flappy was Evan who could turn into a phoenix easily, kat liked cats so she is kitty. And Andrew the charger. Andrew would jump into a fight if there was a slight possibility of winning.
When at the city, we started planning on getting them back and deciding to send 1 person at a time. Now, while telling this I forgot to mention that I was the oldest out of 30 and all the rest are very antisocial. So I was selected in getting us a job. We sent the smallest and stealthiest of us to go. That would be Nathaniel, or ninja. I still remember what I said to him, because I used to live by them. ¨if you are threatened, run. If you fail, run¨. Now sometimes that is good advice but other times it is bad. You cannot just run away from all your problems.
While he did that I found the rest of us a job. It was surprisingly easy. All I had to do was convince a shipbuilder to let us help and be paid. The problem was finding a shipbuilder. The reason why we wanted a shipbuilding job was that we wanted a ship to hold all thirty of us and we wanted to know the ship well. We went to several different towns and cities to find a shipbuilder. But we-I figured out the problem. The problem was that we needed a ship by the sea. So after all that, we found a city that would work.
Meanwhile, Nathaniel was having a tough time breaking in. bajahar had the other personality completely taking over. The other personality was named Jared. he was paranoid that somebody would try and kill him so he made more guards and traps making it near impossible to get in. Nathan decided to report back to us and I figured out what to do. When everybody else was asleep I went to the establishment.
I went over while he slept and woke him up. Now Jared was in almost complete control.¨Stop attacking me this instant or I will summon my guards!¨ he says. Now I figured out to shock him into waking up. But what? He needed a reminder of who he used to be. An old friend to remind him. I used to be his friend. In fact, I was 1 of the few who knew his actual name. “Bajahar, wake up¨. Three words. No chance it would work. But it did. His eyes changed back to sky blue instead of hazel. He stopped shaking. And he said to me, ¨ sorry, I forgot Bill. I forgot what it was like to be a friend. I forgot what gardening was. I forgot my name, my humanity, my life. I could only think that I will die and that scared me. I¨m sorry.¨ ¨It´s ok¨. And so it went on like that him apologizing, and me helping him. After that, I left him there. He said he needed some isolation to get through it. Nothing else happened on the escape but one thing.
So while telling you this thing I have never told anybody this more than once so make sure you remember. This is how we got to this island while escaping on the boat there was 1 storm. It struck our ship with lightning. The boat caught fire so we ended u sailing with a half-burnt boat a third of the way. At the time it seemed like a big deal because it was. But now it seems more laughable than true but that is what happened. So that is all for tonight. You have school tomorrow and as your history teacher, I am not allowed to keep you up.¨
