Gods Who?
I have no doubt that there's a higher power at work. But is it a God, the God, or any one being? I don't think so.
I have seen things and felt the power too many times to deny it's existence. Once, after my Dad passed, my wife and I were at the beach and I was sitting alone up beyond the tide line. A woman was walking towards me but was at least 100 yards away when her dog and I saw each other. The pup broke free from her, ran past my wife who was giving the kissy kissy gesture (which always works on me) and jumped up on me to give love. When the woman caught up she said the dog had never run like that before, and usually doesn't like men. So was this a God taking possession of the dog? Was it my Dad inhabiting the dog? Was I wearing bacon cologne that day? I really don't know, but I DO know that there was a higher power on the beach that day because that little dog helped heal my broken heart.
But I can't believe in one God or any one religion because I won't allow myself to be so ignorant to think that I'm right and millions of people, who follow other or no religions, are wrong. That just seems wrong to me and certainly doesn't reflect the open kind of person I want to be.
If walking in the footsteps of a God helps you to be a better person who cares for everyone...then I'm very happy for you! I have experienced the love of religious people and it truly can be amazing. If you want to wish me a Merry Christmas because you're celebrating the birth of Jesus...I welcome it. I'm happy to celebrate Hanukah with my Jewish in-laws, and I really enjoy the Buddhist teachings within Yoga.
If however you walk in the footsteps of a God to find comfort in your bigotry, racism, sexism, or hate for others then you, my friend, are on the wrong path. No religion should decide the movements of a country, the safety of its institutions, or the freedoms of its people.
But I might be wrong. :)
