“Asleep. Asleep.” She’d coo to you as you lie there and weep.

“Asleep. Asleep. All shall be better whenever you and I can fall asleep.”

“Hush now, and just go to sleep”

She’d lull to you as your eyelids meet.

“Asleep, asleep, all will be fixed by next week”.

Her hushed tone and beguiling words soothe your worries

For you sincerely hope

That she hasn’t deceived you

Yet she has no plans to see tomorrow

Her only intention is to hold you close for the last time.

For she expects nothing else

Than for you to awaken well rested

And absolutely alone
