Night Sounds

My eyes were opened and my ears listened

As I laid awake in bed last night.

I could hear the sounds of things around me

But not one of them was in sight.

I hear the house settling down to sleep,

With a creak of the floor.

The air whistling through the vent

Just beyond the closed door.

The frogs chirp far, far away,

As the last bird sings.

I finally fall asleep as I prepare

For what morning brings.
