My Precious Gemstone
When I first saw you
You reminded me of a precious gemstone
One that glistened and gleamed
And was perfect in every way
Your skin was smoother than
A crystal polished hundreds of times
And was purer than the most
Breathtaking pieces of diaphanous quartz
Your locks of hair were like Tigers Eye
A brown that was bolder than walnut wood
Painted with striking streaks of
Dulcet, amber hued honey
Your eyes were green like malachite
Even emeralds would be envious
Of the flamboyant jade colored flame
That burned within your irises
And how you adored the hue of
The sun as it gleamed through the sky
Or of topaz as it's translucent tint
Brought the room alight with its chroma
But then your crystalline, calm demeanor
Transformed to one of covert calamity
As you slowly but surely began to crack
Your jagged edges cutting all who came near
I tried to put your tethered, broken shards
Back together into their intricate positions
But in the end, it only fractured you more
The glimmer of hope I had for you dimming
When I last saw you
You reminded me of the most gorgeous garnet
Your shattered fragments spread across the ground
Stained in the deepest caliginous carmine
Everyone whom you had awed with your
Precious smile and brilliant kindness
Slowly began to tuck themselves away
In a shell created with somber obsidian
But as seconds ticked away into hours, days, weeks
The hardened chains of rock that cemented our minds
Slowly corroded away into acceptance
Farewell my precious gemstone, 'til we meet again
