World’s End
We reached the third day of our journey and, to be honest, things were not going well.
All the girls got the wrong things for the trip and our tour guide sucked. On top of that, there was a heatwave in Era.
We entered a museum and its a just a little better. She grabbed a brochure to fan herself. This adventure was a fail. She pulled out her phone to check air flights. She could make the next flight. She observed the guider. The woman waved them off to explore on their own.
Elisa turned around and walked out. The booklet barely helped outside she tossed it into the trash. People were rushing through the street to get to their destination. She hurried along with them back to her hotel.
She was done with everything. This trip was meant to something more a way for her to connect with others. But she didn't have much to add to conversions with the women.
She was just too different from people. Average but unique.
Finished packing she checked everything one more time and left the okay suit that everyone stayed in. There was nothing for her here. She could backpack through Era.
No, she missed her family and she couldn't do it alone. Maybe, in the future, if she ever had a boyfriend or fiance.
She stopped a taxi and got in.
"Paires International Airport." She swiped her card on the pay pad in the back.
She led back and watch the city pass by. Old and new buildings mixed together. It was changing. Mom told her it to use to be beautiful, no trash in the streets. She wished to see it when it was at the peak of life. And filled with greenery.
The leaves were falling way too soon. This heatwave was damaging life and people adapted behavior. She wrote in her notebook until she arrived at the airport. She hurried through and made it just in time.
She slumped in her seat and pulled out her journal. She glanced around at the people. No one inspired her to write. Her phone rang. She picked up.
"Miss Elisa. Where are you?" She groaned.
"Sorry, Holly but a family emergency I had to leave. I'm on the plane right now and can't talk now. Thank you. You were an amazing guide. The girls are encouraged by what you have shown us."
"A...ooo...Okay. Have a safe trip home."
"I will. Bye." She hanged up. She closed her eyes. She lied but it was the only way out of the tour. And the only way to get a refund.
"That wrong." She peered over at the man beside her. He was dress nice for the flight. He smiled at her. "You shouldn't lie."
She narrowed her eyes at him. How did he know? Unless...shit. The man grinned.
"Carver Lapin." She shook his hand. "Elisa Kauza."
"So why are you leaving Era?"
She looked over at the people. They were pulling out of the airport and heading down the runway.
"So." She peered back at him.
"I was expecting one thing but got nothing. I set expectations too high. And had a goal but wasn't..." The plane jerked.
He gripped her hand and looked out the window. The pilot told all of them to be seat and not to move.
"Shot," He said.
"What's going on?" Shock covered his face.
"Carver, what's happening." She shivered and slapped him. "Carver."
"They're dead. Reaped. Everyone on the ground is gone."
She surveyed at him as the plane shook and gripped the seat.
"Everything's okay," She kept on repeating. Tears pooled in her eyes.
All her relatives were gone. This couldn't be happening. The clairvoyances said that people will disappear before the next eclipse which is to be...Shot.
"Hey. Your not the only one that didn't realize that. Every astronomy knew the moon covers the sun often. It's going to be okay." He wrapped her in a hug. "We will get through this. We have to."
She laid her head on his chest and let the tear fall. She risked a glance at the people.
Everyone was holding on to each other. Grief and terror held the plane.
"There's been a change of plans. We are heading to Terrava. Which is estimated to take about seven hours. As some of you are aware the people on the surface have disappeared. This is the Reap event. Don't forget - what you've been taught. All food and drinks are free. When the seatbelt sign is off you may walk. Thank you all for your understanding."
Elisa closed her eyes. They just sat absorbing what just happened. There was silence. The turbulence was over. Cries could be heard through the plane.
She didn't know how long they held each other until she let go. She reached down to pick up her journal and pen. She opened it and began to be filled up with her anger, hate, grief, and tears.
"Would you like anything, miss?" She glanced up at the flight assistant.
"A soda, chicken sandwich, and chips, please." The woman handed the food to her.
"What kind of chips?" The woman had shown three and she took one.
"Thank you."
"You welcome. And you sir."
"Same as her, except coco. Thanks." The attended served him and moved up.
"I...I'm sorry for cry on you."
"It's okay. Understandable. I may have cried on you. Is that alright with you?"
She smiled at him. "Yeah, yes." There was concern in his eyes for her. She glanced down at her food and forced herself to eat.
She curled in her seat as best she could. She spoke about her family and heritage.
Revealing things she never would to a stranger. He told her about how he lost his father and his mother abandoned him. But he managed to build his own company and was reaching to become a top technology organization in Era and possibly the world.
They landed in Terrava. Everyone waited for their turn of the plane. Carver followed her. They made their way through the airplane and into the airport.
People directed them to the front where lines formed for people to register themselves. She pulled out all her identifications that she had. Glad to have grabbed her birth certificate. But it reminded her of her gift which saved her which she hated.
"Hey, it going to be okay." He touched her hand. She released her grip. It was her turn and she went up and handed her identity paper.
She answered all the questions as best as she could. Telling about her family and the last place she saw them.
"What is your gift? If you have one?" The woman glanced at her.
She took a deep breath and released it. "Guidance."
The woman frowned. "Guidance." "Yes, when I have to do large things it gives me direction in what to do. Sometimes it will be clear other times foggy. I might make decisions without thinking about it. Which is why I survived." She tosed the last part at the woman.
The woman's eyes where wide. O shaped her mouth then snapped it. The woman waved her hand. And a military man walked over. She slouched in the chair. She felt Carver's eyes on her as he spoke with his registration officer.
"This is Elisa Kauza. She has guidance. Which tells her what to do. And saved her life."
The soldier's eyes flashed at her. "Miss Elisa will you please come with me."
"Fine." She grabbed her things and moved to him.
"Hold on, Carver Lapin has telekinesis."
The officer's eyes darted between the man and her. He seemed surprised there was two power gifted together. "Guidance," She mumbled.
"Come with us." He joined them and they walked over to a table that the military was around. Everyone gazed at them as they stopped in front of who appeared to be the leader.
"This is Elisa Kauza with the gift of guidance and Carver Lapin telekinetic." The man-sized him up. She felt a tingle at her neck. She knew the direction it wanted her to take.
"I call it guidance because it tells me what to do. So I can live and survive anything. Even if I don't want to." She said.
The man studied her then came to the surprise followed by a grin. She shot daggers at Carver.
