Wendy Darling
Like clockwork, Peter had returned to 31 Kensington Park Gardens. Wendy's childhood home. She never moved, too afraid that Peter wouldn't be able to find her if she did. He had been visiting her every year of her birthday in hopes that her one wish would be to return to Neverland with him. He waited patiently outside her bedroom window, watching her great great grandchildren wish her good night. Throughout the years he' had seen so many new faces come and go but there was only one who had preoccupied his thoughts. Wendy had made him promise to move on, to forget about her but he couldn't. From the moment he had laid eyes on her he had fallen deeply in love with her. And now as he watched her aged form he realized she was still just as beautiful as she was the day he met her.
"Peter you can come in now." Her voice shaking him from his thoughts.
"I thought they'd never leave." He made his way through the window to her bedside.
"It's always a pleasure to see you Peter, how are the boys doing?" It had been years since she had last visited the lost boys. She was sure that there were more of them now.
"They miss you, they wanted to come but I wouldn't let them." He crossed his arms over his chest.
"Why not, it would have been lovely to see them all again." This is one of the many reasons Peter loved Wendy. She always cared for him and the boys, she was like a mother to the boys but she was something much more to Peter.
"Because they would have hogged you all to themselves and not shared." Wendy adored the boys but Peter was always her favorite lost boy.
"If I remember correctly you were the only one who didn't to like to share. " She let out a soft laugh. Peter had always wanted to capture her laughter and keep it in a music box. It was another thing about her that he loved.
"Wendy." She knew what was coming, it had been the same thing all these years.
"Yes Peter?" She looked at him through her glazed eyes holding in the tears she didn't want him to see.
"It's time for you to make a wish." He pulled out a small silk sack with Tinks special wishing dust inside of it. She opened her hand as he sprinkled a few in her hand.
"I want to go home." For the first time in a long time her voice was a bit shaky.
"All you have to do is close your eyes and wish for it." He was eager to have her in Neverland. He had been waiting for so long.
"No Peter, I want to go home. I want to see my Papa and Mama again." A single tear escaping down her cheek.
"NO! You have to come with me, you promised. " He hovered over her, watching intently.
"Peter I promised to stay with you for as long as I could and I have. I've grown so very tired and weak." She reached to cup his cheek.
"You can't leave me here alone, I won't allow it." He flung his body against hers, holding onto her.
"Please, Wendy let me take you to Neverland with me." This was the first time in forever that she saw Peter like this, so fragile.
"Peter, I've grown too old for Neverland. Please let me go, I want to go home." She held him close to her, hearing his soft sobs.
"Is that what you really want Wendy?" Finally facing her, he could see the longing in her eyes. As much as he wanted to keep her, to take her away with him he couldn't do that to her. He could never hurt her.
"Yes Peter, it's what I really want." And there it was, the twinkle in her eyes that she got whenever she was truly happy. That's when he knew that he had to give her up, to finally let her go.
"Okay Wendy, time to make a wish." He placed his hands over hers, closing them around hers.
" Thank you Peter for giving me the best adventures of my life." She leaned in and kissed his cheek. She closed her eyes and made her wish. Their hands began to glow from the fairy dust.
"I love you." It was his turn for his voice to shake.
"Just hold that happy thought Peter." Wendy had laid back, her eyes still closed.
"Wendy?" Peter called to her but he knew she had gone. The glowing of the dust had dimmed slowly until it was put out. Her wish had came true, she had gone home.
"I'll never forget you Wendy Darling....never." He covered her up, not wanting her to get cold. With a final kiss on her lips he was finally able to let her go.
