island undoing
Humidity drapes warm sheets
from head to toe,
& our clothes cling in defiance,
threatening permanence to our shape.
City senses slow and widen,
swallowing whole, these new beats
from an ancient primal drum.
Here is a oneness long lain dormant,
what our conscious long forgot.
A sixth sense of awe--
I taste the color of this ripped flesh.
