Love Nest
You walked delicately towards me
Bare toes curling into the old tan
Carpet that came with the house,
Into the carpet that we kept meaning
To replace
The wide neck of the cotton T-shirt
That you stole from my drawer
Fell
Off a freckled shoulder
Making you look like a little girl
But also the mature woman that
You are all at once
Your hair was wet
From your shower
And I could smell the jasmine
In your hair,
The shampoo that you had been buying
Since we were in high school
It was dark outside,
Shadows from the streetlights
Framing your silhouette
You smilled and
I saw god in your eyes
I saw heaven
As you slipped under the covers
Beside me
I pulled you to my side,
Breathing in the freshness of
Detergent and you
And thought about us
About how I will make you coffee
In the morning
And and steal kisses that hold the taste, that will permeate
The rest of my day
