Masks

Seamlessly we put them on,

          To cover what we feel,

               Are our imperfections.

     With almost no thought,

 We shift between them,

To accommodate the expectations of others.

Do we forget which mask to put on,

Or forget that we have one on at all,

That is something to think about.

Is it that important to cater,

To what society prescribes,

And the norms that are blindly followed.

One day when we love ourselves,

As much as we want the world to love us,

Is when we will get rid of the masks.

We will pitch them aside,

Proud with who we are and not,

Who we are supposed to be.

That is the day we will truly be internally happy and free,

Being who we are not worrying who we were meant to be.
