The Last Word

One time;

one time I had a chance

a chance to make a change

the change of all changes

But alas;

I dare not take it

for I knew

there was no going back

Oh, the fool I had been;

caught in deep dispare

I was too full of pride

to see the dire end

And to this very day,

I can only say,

of what might have been

on that dark autumn day

The hours I have spent

trying to find that peace;

They were all in vain

for I knew not what I seek

My time is up,

I must go forth;

But I leave you with this final note:

"Earn to live,

live to die"
