oh how I hate deadlines
Count Halloween
One toddler wanders lonely streets alone.
Two parents give chase, they're chilled to the bone.
Three lights in the dark, their own small bubbles.
Fourtunately, they merge before trouble.
Five minutes to explain, how, why, and where.
"Six," grumbles Daddy, "that's how we got here."
Seven blocks away and two houses more,
Eight candy, then we'll pass out on the floor.
"Nine-Night friend," says the kid, waving at air.
Tense parents laugh and pretend not to care.
