Where Were You?
Where were you
when the night closed in?
When the silence exclaimed
let us begin?
Where were you
as I threw away
All of my heart
and flew astray?
Were you observing
from afar?
Recording my madness
marking my scars?
I wonder I wonder
if you shall ever return.
Or if our bridge friend
has been all but burned.
Is that you in the shadows
standing there?
So many years since I saw you
that I can't help but to stare.
Where were you
as I fought with the blues?
Or did I never
drop a clue?
Alas to move on
from the ghosts of the past.
Let us see how much longer
our friendship can last.
For as time passes
we both become painfully aware
That no one escapes
from the reaper's glare.
So let us feast
and we'll drink
We'll sit
and we'll think
Then when we once more
come to the brink
I shall ask:
Where were you?
