Nowhere to Hide.

My mind keeps replaying the last hour. 

They're all gone. 

My family. Gone in the blink of an eye. 

I have to keep going. 

The soft leaves mold to the shape of my feet. 

I'm the only one left. 

I have to survive. 

The closest neighbor is five miles away. 

I can make it. I have to make it. 

What happens now?

Nothing will ever be the same. 

I stumble over a tree root and I collapse. 

I lay on the damp earth. 

It soothes me. 

I have to keep going. 

I see a shadow sitting next to a tree. 

I run to it. 

I instantly recognize my dad. 

He's sitting next to my lifeless sister. 

"Daddy?" 

"Come here princess."

He rocks me in his arms like a baby. 

I see the glimmer of moonlight on a knife. 

It's driven into my back. 

"Sleep tight now baby."
