Who Am I?

I was there in the beginning for the first letting of blood.  Streams of crimson mingled with the dark earth, and I listened as the tainted life-flow  cried out to me, "Let me live!"  But to no avail.

I was there for the wars that followed. When men and women took up arms against one another.  Rivers and lakes of bloody red swelled in the jungles and the forests, the countryside and the desert sand.

I was there when men took the seas and shed blood on the salty waters. Ships went down as men cried out in fear. Their blood spread out around them as the sharks drew near.

I was there in the morning hours, when evil had no fear of the light of day and shed blood freely.  I was there in the darkest of night, when terror reigned supreme.  And the blood that was shed cried out to me,  "Justice!"

I said that enough was enough.  I could take it no more.  I made my decision to teach kindness and love, wherever and to whomever I could.  I taught about peace and forgiveness.  I asked everyone to live in harmony.

The blood trickles into the sand, the cobblestones, the wood.  Crimson stains, dark and deep.  My blood.  My own blood.  Now streaming in rivers from my head, my back, my hands and feet.  As a man about to die, I understand one truth as never before.  We all bleed the same.
