Blood Red
Red as a ripened berry, swelling with life-giving nourishment
Red as a roaring flame, flickering scarlet heat or burning unquenchably
Red as a robin’s chest, flitting through misty morning skies
Red as a ruby ring, a reminder of promises made to cherish and love
Red as the remembrance poppy, lying on the cold grey graves
Where the dried blood has long since faded into stone
Where the corpses rest unmoving
Where I whisper
‘We all bleed the same’
