Lily
In the uncertainty that governed my life
Your red lipstick was a constant
You were lost deep in yourself
But your warm energy wrapped around me
At times when I needed it the most
I can still remember the little details
Your hesitant smile, painted red
Your voice scratchy like a smoker's
And sounded like a rock made smooth
By the river currents rushing over it
And truthfully, I dont know you at all
What I have seen is not a full picture
Inside those four walls and out
But this is what I do know:
Your light dwells inside of me
I tried to leave as much as I could behind
Memories shoved in locked boxes without keys
But your light couldnt be contained
Though hidden behind wars and storms and darkness,
I still saw through the murkiness and shadows
It was there where I found your warmth, your soft glow, and your spirit
Like the gentle flame of a candle in a dark room
And now my only wish in your absence
Is that you could have seen your light too
