what is it about moonlight

that makes people fall in love?

the shimmering light that steals your attention

away from the darkness

which is always whispering little secrets in your ear?

is it the gentle caress of a lonely breeze? 

I once fell in love

in the moonlight. 

The dark hugged us close when she first held my hand

and my heart clenched when her lips first touched mine. 

And all those nights, 

where the moon watched over us 

as we explored what it meant

to feel indefinite.
