The House of Hate
How I hate this house, let me count the ways.
I hate the anger growing in these walls
Until it explodes out and makes me fall
Into the burning pain of fury's blaze.
I hate the way I don't know when I wake
If I will find a smile that's kind or cruel
To make me strong or to feel like a fool
Being manipulated in a cage.
I hate this house that haunts my dreams,
That makes surviving every day so tough.
In every silence I can hear the screams
That cut me open 'til I bled enough
That my blood would have filled a hundred streams.
Why make this house from hate instead of love?
Inspired by Elizabeth Barret Browning's 'Sonnet 43' (How Do I Love Thee?)
