14 years in an Hour(WIP)
It was 5:00 in the morning when I awoke in the gelid night. There was a long moment of silence as I sat upright, searching for something that could have stirred me besides the cold and dark morning.
Annoyed that there was nothing around, but the usual clutter, snoozing hounds and strange odors, I laid back on my flatbed and flat pillow and waited for sleep to take over me once again.
Though something peculiar happened as I dozed off. Voices spoke soft words in my mind, some mumbling inaudibly. An indistinct hum began alongside them. “Just a dream,” I thought as my pulse began to accelerate. I had never experienced a lucid dream before and I assumed these voices were just that. Then something changed. My own voice began to speak forgotten memories to me in a clear voice. Though it wasn't my current voice, it was younger. Strange that I recognized my child voice from 6 years before. I had no recollection of it yet I knew for certain it was mine.
"I was trying to help her!” my child-self exclaimed in a sorrowful voice. Realisation dawned on me as I began to recall this event. I had completely forgotten this had ever happen.
The voice continued to repeat the same phrase over and over. The silent hum in the background grew and continued to rise in amplitude.
Frightened by all this I opened my eyes in hope that it stop the dream sequence. My heart leaped up into my mouth at what I saw. The gloomy bedroom warped before my eyes, drawers and desks morphed into unrecognizable objects. The floor stretched and bended with the walls while the size of the room stayed the same and a bleury image started flashing in my eyes. The hum was now blaring in my mind.
Horror struck, I tried to move, leap out of bed and into the real world, but my limbs refused to respawn . Any attempt to escape was futile. I fasted my eyes close hoping that it would all vanish, however the flashing image remained plastered to the inside of my eye lids. The hum, now roar, was so ear wenching it was as if I was on the inside of a turbine engine. I could only faintly hear my child self now.
I screamed.
Screamed with all my might but no real sounds were made. The imaginary noises continued to fill my mind, compressing it until there was nothing left. I couldn't think anymore, I could only hear the noise that surrounded me.
Silence, it all ended so abruptly that it took me awhile to realize that it had stopped. I lied there in bed for a few moments, staring at the ceiling while breathing hoarsely.
I scrambled to my feet and started to pat my bed to make sure it was real.
The world had returned to me.
