Luctus
Born amongst the winter months, when warmth is far forgotten
When life is but a rotten seed, or so I’ve thought so often
Grisly thoughts of memory past, which now so brightly loom
The wind brings mist from farther north, where I will be bound soon
What hath become of brighter days, with song and merry sight?
For now I roam through darkest crypts along this endless night
Where shadows grasp with lustful sights, to quell such dire want
Their glasses brim with foulest drops that turns the stomach daunt
What vile deed I abruptly struck for sternest punishment so
In all the years I’ve faced the worst, I’m still my darkest foe
And when the stars come crashing down upon my shaken frame
The man who comes to take the retched, will surely call my name
The bones do ache and nerves stay clenched, such age without the years
I’d hung my eyes from others sight, the gallows made of fears
Always less than those I’d gaze, and less than those I don’t
So cruel those gods who’d curse me so, so pray to them I won’t
No desire to lead the hearts of men, nor follow the brightest light
I’ll wander now, till sorrow comes, and all I’ll see is white…
Blue bonnet .....
a blue-flowered lupine
supine
framing her paper doll face
point lace
glacé grace
wood pulp pulmonary sprigs

like butterfly wings
spread with butter
on her wing bones
she wears moth cloth
and lives in a molasses moss country house
with primitive gingerbread tea stained paneling
tomato canning
and sun tanning

Fateless
[A continuation of Ageless]
Lazily the boat stretches out
The girl picks through her pocket
And finds a small stash of pebbles
Sending them to their new home
The old man spies an egret
burying its head among the reeds
He finds his partner
A ten-year-old black pipe
And blows his bubbles
Suddenly something thrashes in the sky
Cloaking the clouds
"Should we go back?" the girl asks
"Let's row to that bank and watch the storm"
"You aren't afraid of lightning?" she half-jokingly asks
A small smile tugs at his corners
"I am, but I'm willing to take my chances"
A white jagged tooth flashes in and out
of the sky as tiny whisperings
coiled around trees
die down
She stretches out her hand
greeting cold air
and looks at the old man
A quiet storm brewing in his grey eyes
Just a Bit of Romantic Reassurance
While other girls dreamt of castles and weddings I dreamt of ways to win at chess and coding games. When other girls wished for guys who bought them flowers and chocolate I wished for a guy who'd bring me food and books. When other girls planned their perfect dates at the movies or at fancy restaurants I planned my perfect date at home on your lap watching tv and eating popcorn. While other girls want giant elaborate weddings I just want to spend my life with you. Now they take any guy that gives them a second glance but I'm still waiting for you. I hope you're waiting for me too.
