Your great adventure
My favorite genre is adventure.
My favorite adventure movies are Forrest Gump, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
To me, they encompass what a true adventure should be.
What do you think of when you hear adventure?
Dragons, a mountainous task or Journey, a deep valley one must escape, a trap, a trip to find yourself or the one true love?
Those all make a great adventure, but in the end, at least to me, a great adventure ends with the person learning something great.
Be it bad or good, they learned something, either about themselves, another person, or life or anything that makes their life deeper and more wise or enlightened.
In both those movies the protagonist or lead character (since there necessarily wasn't an antagonist) is fit for that adventure, Forrest could run and save his fellow soldiers, he learned how to run a successful shrimpin' business. Walter Mitty knew how to longboard down that road, he had the leader in him to track down who he needed.
(If you haven't seen either movie, sorry, but this will make sense)
Everyone has an adventure, their own adventure, and I don't mean the crazy trip you took to Mexico, or the flat tire on the highway.
I mean the daily grind adventure, the addiction you want to quit, the family struggles you seem to be crushed by, the job you just got that you feel unqualified for, the self inflicting pain, the drowning of sorrows in whatever is near. Raising kids and handling their stress when you can't handle your own, knowing that if you don't succeed, and if you don't get that job, your family with suffer financial hardship.
The adventure of living your life is the stuff of great adventures.
I'm not saying they are all bad, but to me an adventure has a testing part, the crucible, when you see what you are made of, and hopefully in the end, Gold shines through. No matter how small or huge it may seem to other people, it's your adventure, it's what you are going through.
We all need a little kick sometimes, a little motivation, or spurring on, something or someone to help ignite us to conquer that obstacle and come out on the other side.
Here is to your adventure...
Slay your dragons and beasts, climb the tallest mountain, crawl from the deepest valley, go and fight for your adventures end, for that gold you know you can achieve. Find what you are looking for, nail the job, tell that special someone what you need to say, put down the knife, the drugs and the bottle, go live.
Go live your great adventure, because nobody can live it for you.
We all have that something great inside, and for me Eric James, it's the Lions roar in my heart.
What's yours?
You can do this, I'm pulling for you.
The rain, it pours
The rain, the rain
It pours, it pours
The darkened sky
Clouds my soul
It pierces me to the very end
Nowhere is safe as the storm rages on
The arrows, the arrows
They shower, they shower
They darken my sky
And shred my land
My people, my people
My precious kingdom
The showers of needles befell my good people
After the rain has stopped the thunder still lingers on
It busts my court doors
And floods my palace
And now I see
I see the river
The bloody river that came from a quiver
Black hole safe
A mucked up spaceship settles to a stop in the middle of nowhere.
Smoke billows from one of the engines and lights flicker outside and inside through the windows.
"Roman! When is the last time you checked the converter couplings?"
"Six months ago, the guy said they're good for-"
"And you believed him? For methuselah's sake man, we were in the griftiest, darkest most scoundrel filled junkyard part of the Galaxy, what did you think he would say?"
"He looked honest, the top hat helped sell the story, he even gave it to me."
"Give me that, it's probably go a tracker in it."
Wyatt took the hat and smashed it, and jettisoned it from the ship.
"That was my lucky hat."
Wyatt rolled his eyes.
"I think we're here. The coordinates I got place the black hole right in front of us."
"I don't see anything" Said roman.
"It's a black hole against a black backdrop." Said Wyatt in an annoyed tone.
"What kind of intel did you get on this black hole, what's so special about this one, versus the one we almost flew into." Said Roman.
"This ones got a secret locked in it"
"Like metaphorically? Philosophically? Help me out."
"There is a secret locked in there, someone put information on a" Wyatt drew a blank, "something, and put it in there for safe keeping."
"What? I can't even begin to understand why someone would do that, or how? Isn't it lost for good, irretrievable? You go in and die" said roman.
"I guess that's the paradox, you learn the secret, but die knowing. I hope it's worth dying for."
"Well maybe it's not completely lost, maybe they have some tether on it and you pull it out." Said roman.
"Impossible, unless it's man made, maybe it's voice activated." Said Wyatt.
"Maybe you're stupid, how could a black hole be voice activated?"
"Maybe it was man made I said!"
Said Wyatt with frustration.
"How can you make a black hole?"
"Maybe it's a fake one and it's built to throw off people like us. So we either take the ship in, or you watch me die in a suit." Said Wyatt.
"You don't even know what the secret is, and you're willing to chance death? You got this info from the same junkyard part of the Galaxy I got those couplings from, how do you know it's good Intel?"
Asked roman.
"Because I stole it from a business man, he was in the wrong place, over dressed for that solar system, I mean who even goes to earth?"
"We do." Responded roman, "desperate people who need couplings and a cool top hat." He said with annoyance.
"Besides, how do you know that doesn't have a tracker on it" Roman pointed to the glass square Wyatt was holding, it had holographic lettering on it.
"Maybe it's a trap, or a joke, or even a prank" Said roman.
"Yes, I know I've thought of it all. I'm terrified, but it has to be something truly special for someone to lock it up in a light forsaken dungeon."
"If someone managed to lock up anything and put it in there, and if there is a remote chance it's even retrievable, we're dealing with powerful people. People who have surveillance on this thing."
"I scanned, there isn't anything, and that's smart, they don't want to draw attention to this."
"Ok, fine, let's do it, quarter speed ahead." Said roman.
"Why quarter?" Asked Wyatt.
"That's all the power we have, plus it gives me time to use the bathroom before event horizon."
"Onward to possible death, or the biggest blackmail scheme ever."
The engines billowed smoke as it chugged along towards impending doom.
By the tears of the sky
The night sky rained
Like never before
Drops of space fell
As if it melted
Dark black drops with shiny glitters
A galaxy in one drop
A cluster of stars in another
Billions of worlds came crashing on my hands and all around me
A drop in my eye
I see the splendor of space and the gamut of the cosmos
Worlds orbit my mind
Stars blind me as it seeps in
Drops keep falling
Clouding my sight
Tears drop down
Tears of stars trickle down my face
Galaxies collect in the corner of my eye
As I watch the sky melt away
Drop by drop
The infinite is no more
All is ending
By the tears of the sky
The rivers that flowed
The rivers flowed
Where they hadn't flowed before
Raging waters of tears and blood
From the dearly departed and those mourning the lost
An endless wake of death befell
A quiet little town
Previously bereft of hell
Where once a field lay teeming with life
Now crops of bodies are strewn about
Homes turned to ash
Those that survived are scattered to the wind
Telling the deeds
Of those who lay waste
Injustice has come with no one to stop it
Tears still shed
But now they are a brook
A quiet remembrance of the hate that took place
Superman
So my daughter (3 years old) asked me if I was superman. She doesn't know who superman is, or what he does or anything (not really sure how she knows of him). Anyhow, I told her no.
I'm sure it's cute to play into that, and later when she does know, she will possibly associate him with me.
I don't want that.
Call me weird, or old fashioned or just plain dumb.
Most of my life has been ruled by me feeling like a failure. I'm pretty hard on myself, and put myself down a lot.
My mindset of telling her I'm superman sets me up to be some fictitious person I cannot be, whether she knows him or not, I feel like I have a standard that is unattainable now.
Secondly, I want to be just daddy to her, I want her to grow up thinking I'm better than superman.
That would be the best feeling.
My thoughts on that.
