These are trying times. But some people are just embedded in angst, misery and woe. That can't be healthy. So here is a fun challenge... (You remember fun, right?) I want a 500 word story based on a fun combination of at least TWO movies. No serious, weepy or scary stuff. Just a fun mash up! I did one to start... Write a short piece using misplaced adjectives (eg describe a sound using a colour). I have tried one myself and found it quite challenging. Please tag me in the comments if you enter.

Take a movie title and play with it. Mess up the title and stick to the theme. Or mess up the theme, too. My version of Lord of the Wrongs isn't ready yet, so I started us off with a different movie.

It has been suggested to me it would be fun to write in the style if the great Dr Seuss. I agree. So thats the challenge. 15 to 500 words.

It's easy to get bogged down in angst and tales of woe... we all do it. So brighten up my day by writing something TOTALLY positive (no twist or double meaning to spoil the smile!) (I have had a go to start us off x)

Write something in a genre you normally avoid or rarely use. Romance, horror, mystery, mild erotica, comedy/humour, factual, sc-fi, fantasy... anything! I've set the word limit to 550 max as I like to read all entries to my challenges, but I have other things to do, too. Imagine the reader reaction to something you write. Write a piece that includes the reader's voice. This was inspired by a conversation I had about erotic writing, for which I wrote a piece.. the link is below, as I didn't especially want this to be about erotica. It's just that mine fitted in with what sparked the idea! Hey!" And don't be modest... enjoy! x

Recent entries and comments sparked me again to sabotage my own poetry. So the challenge is to part write something poetic, but at appropriate times destroy its rhythm or rhyme. I found this challenging (it probably shows ha ha!) but it's a really good mental exercise to deliberately take yourself out of the flow!

Make up a lame joke. Try to be original if possible... my example below.

I've noticed on Prose, many writers have a talent for cramming a big story into a short story. We know that something has happened before. We know that something will happen after this event. That's my challenge. Write a scene so we can wonder what happened before and what is coming next. Min 15 words... to infinity.

You went to a swanky hotel with your partner for your office Christmas party. Your office took fifty people, but it was one of those where lots of works take tables, so there's 300 people there. Your partner is jealous because you talk, laugh and dance with colleagues. He feels left out. Eventually he storms out and takes the 90 minute drive home. You have booked a room for the night and you are determined not to waste it. And to enjoy the party.... What happens next?

Probably easier to do as prose, though any form is acceptable. Aim for under 1,000 words, though I won't set a limit. As usual I leave an example to get us started. Happy Writing!

Use the name of a band as a title of a piece of writing (any style or type). ideally put music player on random/shuffle and use the band name that comes on first. I did it and House of Pain came on (see my example piece)

Just use the title as inspiration (don't follow the story of the book - if it has one)

Get a famous song lyric stuck in your head. Then extricate it by building something around it... any format
