A candle flickers, throwing shadows against the wall,

He breathes deeply and slowly, holding my gaze for an apparent eternity.

I want to say something, anything but I know not what,

For everything seems silly, pointless in my mind.

How can I make him understand?

How can I make him see?

He may want that I stay but leaving may be the only option for me.

I watch the sunset

And its cleansing light

It illuminates the horizon so bright

And highlights my little songbird’s flight

To a better place, I’ll bet.
