THE HUNTER’S MOON
The news arose with the dawning sun
That death would soon appear
In seven days it would come
Hold thy loved ones near
Autumn’s harvest brewed darker days
The season welcomed mankind’s fate
Mortal men hunted game
The moon prowled on the human race
Ancient biology embedded in our bones
Veiled misgivings of a dubious reality
Raging realms of worlds unknown
The ancestry we cannot see
Cosmic connections to the world at stake
Spirited away on All Hallows’ Eve
Death does not discriminate
Earth, air, and fire gathered to grieve
In each death a blossoming life
Saints, sinners, martyrs and thieves
Beyond the graveyard, without strife
Craving six feet of resurrected immortality
In the ashes of the unconscious
Birthing a new dimension of experience
Shadowed by transcendence
Into the ether of existence
