A Pencil
A pencil
You write with it
You scribble with it
You chew on it...
Sometimes
You try not to but when you are nervous it is always there
It's your trusty pal
For writing to a pencil pal
You break it out of anger
Then tape it out of sorrow
When it gets dull
You sharpen it
Until all you have left is a stump
A stump of what it used to be
A pencil
You go to find a new one now
What do you find?
A pencil made out of plastic?
That never runs out?
No thanks
I think I will stick with my pal
A Ladder
Climbing up, up and away
No going back now
Working hard
Climbing this ladder
Up, up and away you go
Into the sky
Into the clouds
As you reach the top
You scramble up
Looking back down from where you stood
The strength it took
For you to leave the ground
Leave the place where you were found
The only place you ever knew
Now up here
In the clouds
Look up and see
There is more to go
Do you dare?
Then start climbing
Up, up into the air
Embarrassed
Your face becomes hot
You look down at your feet
Wondering if you did something wrong
People laugh at you
Do you take it lightly?
Was it meant to hurt you?
Everyone forgets what you did
What happened
But you don't
It swirls in your head
Until something good comes in
Like a rainbow after a storm
New and Old
New to old
Old to new
The world wants new
The latest and greatest
Smaller and slimmer
We compete to be the best
The next big thing
When the best new thing is old
Old books and notes
Hiding secrets we want to know
All we have to do is open a book
Maybe an old one
Sit and read
Sorry, there is no touch screen
Nature
Growing out of every corner
Every nook and cranny
It's there, just look
Hidden in plain sight because you don't care to notice it
Its beneath your feet
Above your head
You never care to give it a smile
Not even a look.
Even though it waves in the wind trying to catch your eye
You never care to take a moment off your work
Off your gadgets and gizmos
Take a minute and look
You'll be amazed at what has been hiding in plane sight
