He watched her in her deepest sleep, he dared not enter her room until he was absolutely certain he wouldn't have woken her. 'Too risky' he thought as he tiptoed closer to her bed. Only a distant light from down the hall broke through the door deliberately left cracked open a few inches.
Patiently he waited for his eyes to adjust to the dimly lit room before moving any further. Slowly things came into view, a small table next to her bed, no clocks or personal items and the walls were mostly bare with only his shadow on the far wall, he stepped away from the thin blade of light.
There she was sleeping soundly, what would she do if she woke to see him in her room? Could he make it out in time before she came to her senses and screamed? 'No.' he silently admitted. But that only made him more determined to be as quiet as possible.
'I could watch you all night'
Listening to her breath her slow, deep breaths reassured him he was covert enough to stand over her as long as he felt like it. She was on her side with one foot out from under her blankets. He smiled. As tired as he was, he knew he could stand here watching her all night. She was so beautiful, her curls draped over her brow made him instinctively tuck them behind her ear. She was sleeping so deeply that he could risk it. And perhaps just a little bit more in fact. A whisper? Yes, she had to know on at least a subconscious level that he was there. He leaned in and with one hand on her shoulder quietly whispered in her ear:
"You're only one year old but already I know you're the best thing that has or ever will happen to me. I love you so much."
Yeah, he could watch her all night.
