Control.
Like ivy, manipulation starts small, simply; Water seeps into the seed catalyzing the development of the strangling vines just as his soft whispers fill her ears with precious lies. It’s not noticeable at first; she doesn’t notice his deceptive ways. But with time, the ivy, the manipulation, grows until it is unruly, destroying the life of the neighboring rose, controlling her every breath, her every move, until finally, the life of the rose is squandered, and he remains standing, tall and strong, above the lifeless flower of which he used to rise to power.
