Sparkling
Dust rose as the three worker men dropped the large box onto the ground. The plane crash had killed many people there in downtown Scranton. The only thing left in the large rectangle box.
It had felt like it had weighed a tun. It had taken three men of the wreckage crew to move it.
The first man clap his gloved covered hands from the durst and stared at the strange box. It wasn't like anything he had seen before. At least as strange as boxes could get.
It was a long box, like a casket but it was made of some kind of metal. It was also white in color with a deep burgany stripe that wrapped around the box. What was strange was the keypad in the front. The litte screen was cracked but it was still glowing. The front read: Rest Mode.
"Who ever made this thing sure made it sturdy. Everything else from the plane was completely destroyed. This was all that was left," said the second worker. He bent forward to touch one the keys on the pad. It beeped and the letters started to blink. "What do you think it is for, Greg?" He asked, turning to look at the first worker.
Greg shook his head. "No idea. I am sure the government will want it though," he said with a shake of his head. "And don't mess with that. We don't know what this could do."
"You're right...," the second worker said and stood straight again.
"Hey, do you guys think this key belongs to the box?" The third worker asked as he approached the first. In his hand was what looked like a white Dimond, but it was in the shape of a key. On the top was the matching burgandy Cristal.
"Mike, how did you find that all in the rubble?" Greg asked as he took the key from the other man.
"It was just kind of laying there where we picked up the box. Think it will open it?"
"I don't know man, I looked all around this thing and I didn't see a key hole," said the second worker.
"I don't think we should try. We need to report this thing to the authorities. Everything should be kept in place," Greg said, but the key was taken from his hand from the second worker. "Bill...."
"Cool it Greg, it won't hurt for us to take a look. They can have it after," Bill said and he started to inspect the box again.
"What if this thing is a casket and there is a dead body of a royal in there?" Asked Greg.
"Ha! What else could it be? This size box and this fancy, they probably were on their way home to be buried before the plane crashed," Mike laughed.
"Hey look," Bill shouted. The key in his hand was sparkling a bright white color and a red beem shot from the crystal and aimed at the keypad in the front.
"Operation for Sunrise is set for three minuts." The box said in a computerized voice. The three men jumped back as they stared at it.
"What does that mean?"
"Now you've done it!"
Mike and Greg shouted at the same time.
"I didn't do it! I just held the key," Bill said and looked at the two.
There was a crunch of something behind them and the three men turned around. They were surprised to see a young man about 20 years of age standing behind them, eating an apple. The man gave them a smile. "Hey how's it going?" He asked approaching.
The man was strange. Though it was summer and 90 degrees out he was wearing a thick dark green coat. The hood was covered in white and Grey feathers and sat on top of his head. He took another bite of the apple as he looked at the box.
"Huh, so there was an emergency key," he said and turned to Bill taking the key from his hand. He smiled at the three and turned to the box. He bent and pressed a few of the buttons. Steam rose from the box and the lid slowly opened.
The three workers looked at one another and then they peered inside the box. The only thing in there was a white ribbon curled like a snake. The mystery man with the apple reached in and took it.
"My big brother is rather weird.... don't you think? Nah you wouldn't know. Anyway, bye." He said raised his hand and shot the three dead. He laughed and walked away before anyone noticed.
