The suns rays fell across my face, waking me up. I rolled over, and thump rolled right out of bed. oof. I looked into the mirror, nervously. It was my 13th birthday and for the past 1000 years on your 13 birthday your eyes changed colour. The color decided what level of society you would live in. But my eyes had not changed they were still the same brown colour they had been since her birth. Everyone who had brown eyes hoped they would change for brown was the lowest level of society. They got the worst jobs and horrible pay.

¨Zoe!!!!!!!!!!¨ My best friend, Tae, yelled. She ran into my room and all it took was one look to tell that her eyes changed. They were purple now instead of the old brown. She would go on to be one the most elitle members of society.

¨ Congrats,¨ I said, ¨come on were gonna be late for class.¨ She took my hand and started dragging me toward class, forgetting that i was still in my pjs. ¨Zoe you are so right come on I can´t wait to show off my eyes.¨ We walked into class and took our seats. Everyone was gossiping, and glancing at Tae´s eyes, until Mrs. Smith. ¨Good morning class,¨ Mrs. Smith called out in a cherry tone. She was a green, which ment she got a fairly good pay and didnt have to live in a dump.

¨OMG,¨ Tae screamed looking at me,¨ Zoe your eyes are red, fucking red.¨ Everyone shifted uneasily. ¨Tae, language. Zoe I believe you need to come with me.¨ Mrs. Smith said gently. ¨Okay,¨ I said getting up and following her. ¨I don´t understand, Ithought reds were just a myth.¨ I said confused. ¨Honey, reds do exsist but they are very rare and often have powers that can be dangerous. You will be sent to the reds school ASAP, and learn to control your powers. Then you will be sorted into one of the 4 houses.¨ she said calmly. ¨Cool you mean like in Harry Potter?¨ I asked. ¨ No, you will be sorted according to you powers, now you must go there will be a car waiting for you and we will ship all of your stuff to you as soon as we can.¨ She said,¨ Be careful,¨ and with those final words she escorted me outside and lead me to a black car, she was the last thing I saw as the car pulled away leaving my old life behind.

Through out the drive to my new school, my new life. I was filled with dread, would I ever see Tae or my parents again. I wondered what my new life would be like. ¨Umm, excuse me, ¨ I asked the driver, ¨When will we be there, at the school.¨ He looked at me, and said ¨We will be arriving shortly.¨ I nodded and looked at the window and watched the countryside pass by. A few minutes later I saw a large red brick building with large windows, and kids racing around outside. There were 4 banners hanging on the front of the building, there were 2 on each side. They were each a different color, blue, red, purple, and white. ¨Here we are miss,¨ the driver said looking at me ¨Enjoy, your new life miss.¨ He came around and opened the door for me. ¨Thanks. ¨ I said and started walking up the gravel pathway. I look closer at the banners each one had a symbol. The white one has a cloud on it, the blue one has a wave, the purple one had a brain surrounded by strange symbols, the red one had a flame. I took a deep breath and walked through the big dark wooden doors. As I entered the building I was overwhelmed with the hieght of the ceilling, it was so tall it seemed as if it was the sky. The huge windows let bright sunlight slant across the floor. I saw a group of kids looking at me and whispering. Then, a girl from the group approuched me with her neon pink hair and red eyes that seemed to glow. ¨Hello, I´m Chloe. You must be new here. Follow me I´ll take you to Madame Rose, the headmistress.¨ She seemed sweet, but I didn´t trust her. ¨Okay, I´ll follow you then.¨ I said gesturing for her to lead. She started walking down the long hallway and I timidly followed her. ¨So what´s your name?¨ She asked glancing over her shoulder. ¨It´s Zoe.¨ She took a turn down another long corridor. ¨Here we are,¨ She said. I knocked on the door. ¨One moment please,¨ a voice said inside the room. The door opened and a middle-aged lady with black hair streaked with silver. She wore a old fashioned black dress. ¨Hello, you must be Zoe, comeon in we´ll get you your schedule and explain how things work here.¨ I nodded ¨Okay,¨ and I stepped inside her office. She closed the door behind me. ¨Okay let me see,¨ The headmaster said, ¨Your roomate will be Andy until we determine your house. You have the same schedule as her, so just stick with her. I will have her give you a tour later.¨ She smiled at me. ¨Okay, I´m sorry but I didn´t catch your name.¨ She gave me a smile. ¨It´s Madame Rose, Andy is on her way. Enjoy your day.¨ I nodded and gave her a small smile. We heard a knock on the door. ¨Come on in Andy.¨ Madame Rose said. The knocking stopped and the door opened. A girl with dirty blond hair and eyes such a light red they were almost pink stepped inside. She was wearing black leggings and a white crop top. ¨Hi, I´m Andy, you must be the new kid.¨ She said with a smile. ¨I´m Zoe,¨ I said. ¨Follow me, I´ll show to our room,¨ she said. ¨Ok lead the way,¨ I said gesturing towards the door.

She walked quickly down the hallway after we left the office. ¨There are a couple things you should know since your new here. 1 watch out for Chloe she is mean and vile.

2 don´t be late. Ever. And 3 don´t stress or show weakness its the eaisest way to get killed here.¨ She said. I thought she was kidding at first but then i saw the dead serious look in her eyes and knew she wasnt kidding. ¨What do you mean killed,¨ I asked. She didn´t reply. ¨Chloe will be nice to you until your sorted into a house,¨ She continued her earlier lecture. I grebbed her wrist to stop her and spin her around to face. ¨Please explain to me what the hell you by getting killed! ¨I yelled at her face. She didn´t flinch. ¨Not here not now,¨ she wispered her voice low ¨Now come on.¨ She started walking briskly

down the brightly light hallway. She stopped at a tall wooden door which was ingraved with multiple symbols. ¨This is our room for now,¨ she said opening the door to reveal a brightly decorated room. I walked in and realized how huge the room was. It was bigger then my old house when I was little. The walls were painted a bright white so pure it seemed to glow. There were two identical beds, desks, dressers, and vanities. They were a dark wood and the vanity had a huge mirror. Each dresser had seven drawers. Only one side of the room looked lived in. It had brightly colored clothes drapped over the desk and chair with the drawers over flowing. The beds bright blue comfotor was rumpled and halfway on the floor. ¨Wow,¨ I said more to myself then any one else. Andy shrugged ¨Its okay I guess,¨ she said. I turned in a circle and realized there was a huge bay window wich looked out on the mountains. ¨They mountains are beautiful,¨ I said with a sigh, for the first time since I left home I missed Tae. I wondered what she was doing at that moment. ¨Hey, are you okay? ¨ Andy asked me sounding concered, without realizing it I had started crying. ¨I´m okay, I just miss home and my best friend, I feel so lost and I don´t know where I belong yet, ¨ I said turning to face her. She gave me a small sad smile, ¨I understand,¨ She said, ¨You will adjust eventually.¨ I walked over and sat on my cushy bed, my bed spread was white. ¨You start classes tomarrow so I´ll explain your scheduale to you,¨she came over and sat on my bed and pulled out a piece of papper that looked as though it had been folded several times. ¨Let´s see,¨ she said unfolding the papper, ¨For first period you have soocial studies, second you have english, third you have manifesting your power, fourth you have math. Then lunch, studyhall,and then your dimissed until you have been sorted into your house.¨ She said looking at me. ¨That seems like a lot,¨ I said. You could hear the worry in my voice. ¨Everything will be fine, don´t worry.¨ She said with concern in her voice. ¨Come on lets go get some supper.¨ She gave me a hug and led me to the dining hall.
