Part One
The tank rolled past slowly, sending tremors through the earth. Normally, Marcus would be awoken by the tank driving past his house, but today, he pulled off the blankets and slipped out of bed. The clock showed that it was well after curfew, but Marcus was tired of this war. He slipped on his running shoes and crept down the hallway. The stairs were a sure way to wake up his parents so he went into the bathroom, slid open the door, and leapt out, landing on the awning of their porch below. Awkwardly, he slid/stumbled down the side and fell onto the grass. He saw the light turn on in his sister’s room, and in three seconds, her head was sticking out of the window and she was looking dead into his eyes.
Part 3
Meanwhile, on the other side of town there was confusion. It was a lazy day confusion. The morning sky was redden and bruised. Frank thought to himself it was like the world was falling as a whole into self-abuse. The dawning, presented itself much more like twilight, and even more so, as a falling out of grace. Frank tried to recollected how many days he had been unemployed and isolated, but as a matter of fact, he couldn’t tell you what day of the week it was. He rubbed his face, and stared out the window again. He didn’t have any particular plans, and wasn’t much in the mood for getting up or out at all, but something out the window called. It just seemed out of kilter, and so he plopped his holey socks on the apartment floor and shuffled to the windowsill, where he leaned his full weigh and tried to reassess the situation. There was silence. A silence so bad in his room that he finally made the effort to raise the window.
And that’s when it hit him.
