dear inner child,
you're the one
who makes me want
to run barefoot
through fields of
grass and clover
you're the one
who loses track
of time
as i observe
old drawings
with
familiar faces
you're the one
who stays up too late
looking out the window
at the stars
you're the one
you acts first
impulsively
careless about
the aftermath
you're the one
who's
a spark
a joy
a light
and i love you for that
Today
Today I did a somersault
Upon the fresh mown green
The grown-ups would have laughed to see
That silly girlish scene
Today I laughed and sang again
In chorus with the birds
And though it saved my sanity
I hope I wasn’t heard
Today I ran and skipped a ways
Across the grassy lawn
For it felt so good to breathe the air
This sunny country morn.
Inner Child
the inner child in me
she a lot to take in you see
bloody knuckles and scraped knees
from all the anger left in me
her laughter bubbly as can be
as she laughs
at the simplest things
reckless and daring, hardly caring
about what others believe
shes filled with desire
to climb higher and higher in the old oak tree
as she sings a melody so sweet
almost 18 now...
where did she go
she left a long time ago
after heartbreak and hard times
it was hard to keep her alive
oh well it was fun
while she lasted, after all, she's just a piece of the past
Young Old Man
The one thing you can't stop
Is time.
But that's ok.
You can't help but grow up.
But you don't have to grow up too much.
Keep that inner child active.
Enjoy a sense of wonder about
The amazing things around you.
Buy that junk cereal every now and then.
Watch that cartoon on Saturday mornings.
Take a ride on that swing set.
Save the princess or stop that mad scientist in those games once again.
Listen to that band you loved as a teen that somehow sounds the same 30 years later.
Find something that makes you feel young
And enjoy it.
You may get old,
But don't act your age.
Whatever that means....
